Lights On South Africa Campaign 2023
The Learning Trust in partnership with the Youth and After School Programme Office (Western Cape) and Community Chest of the Western Cape drive the annual Lights On After School campaign in South Africa.
The theme for 2023 ‘Rally for After School Programmes,’ highlighted the impact of ASPs in transforming communities across South Africa.
LOAS is a year long effort dedicated to celebrating ASPs worldwide. In 2023, we invited partners across the country to embark on this journey with us and share their campaign activities, using the hashtags #LightsOnAfterSchool and #AfterSchoolSA on social media and across the different platforms.
What is Lights On After School?
Launched by the Afterschool Alliance (U.S.) in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool! is an annual campaign that brings awareness to the importance of After School Programmes (ASPs), drawing attention to the many ways that these programmes support learners by offering them opportunities to learn new things and unlock their potential.
The effort generates media coverage across the country each year. The events send a powerful message that millions more kids need quality After School Programmes.
How do you get involved?
Visit the Resource Hub (updated yearly), and explore the resources and activities suited to your needs. All we ask is that you share all your activities on social media using #LightsOnAfterSchool #AfterSchoolSA .

Celebrating After School Practitioners
On October 5th, we celebrate World Teacher’s Day. As an integral part of the Lights On After School campaign, we also extend our appreciation to the extraordinary After School practitioners who lead the way in the After School sector and beyond. Join us in celebrating your favourite practitioner by sharing a heartfelt message on social media using the hashtag #ThankAPractitioner, and share how their positive influence has impacted your life.
